Operators who need a wrench turned on a driveline have a dealer or a diesel shop for that. Operators who backed a 26 foot box into a dock plate, caught a canopy with the front roof corner, or need eight units repainted into a new livery before a contract start date are talking to the right building. Being blunt about the line is faster than discovering it in week two.
A commercial truck is three structures, and almost every scoping mistake comes from treating it as one. The frame is two parallel steel C-channel rails with bolted or riveted crossmembers, from Freightliner, International, Hino, Isuzu, Kenworth, Peterbilt or Ford depending on the class. The cab is a separate assembly sitting on isolators, so it can be damaged without the frame moving and it can be replaced without touching the rails. The body is a third structure entirely, built by Morgan, Supreme, Utilimaster or a specialty builder and bolted to the frame through mounting brackets. A dock impact usually damages body and sill. A jackknife usually damages cab and frame. A low clearance strike usually damages body roof and front header only. The estimate that reads correctly is the one that names which of the three took the load, and that is a measurement question rather than a photograph question.
Box bodies deserve their own paragraph because they are the volume of this work. A dry van box is a cage of extruded aluminum posts and rails skinned in FRP or aluminum, sitting on a hardwood floor over steel crossmembers. Panels are replaceable in sections, which is what makes a side swipe economically repairable, but the posts behind them are what hold the box square and a bent post shows up as a door that will not seal. A refrigerated body is a different product with the same silhouette: foamed in place polyurethane sandwiched between FRP skins, so a puncture is never just a skin repair. Water enters the foam, migrates, adds weight and destroys the insulation value, which means a reefer panel repair is a cut back to dry foam, a foam fill and then a skin. Repairing a reefer like a dry van is the single most common bad repair we see arrive from somewhere else.
Doors and equipment are where downtime actually comes from. A roll up door from Whiting or Todco is a set of hinged panels on a track with a counterbalance spring and a bottom seal, and it derails for three reasons: a bent track from a forklift, worn rollers, or a broken spring that let the door drop. Swing doors carry their load through hinges bolted into the rear frame, so a sagging swing door usually reports a cracked rear corner post rather than a worn hinge. Liftgates from Maxon, Waltco or Thieman bolt or weld to the rear sill and the frame rails, and a liftgate that has started twisting under load is very often a rear sill failure being blamed on the gate. Curtain side systems from Roland and similar builders run a sliding tarp on a top rail, and a torn curtain is usually the second problem after a bent rail. All of these are install and structural work, which is squarely in scope.
Paint is the other half of the truck business and it is a fleet appearance question more than a repair question. A commercial unit lives outdoors in Southern California UV, and single stage white oxidizes into a chalky surface that will not hold a decal. We refinish cab and body, respray box panels to match a fleet standard, apply and remove vinyl liveries and lettering, and do reflective conspicuity markings and chevron work on units that need them. Where a fleet is running mixed model years, matching a fleet white across a 2015 cab and a 2023 cab means spraying out a card for each and agreeing on a target before anything goes in the booth. Labor posts at $210 per hour for body and paint with paint supplies at $55 per paint hour. For a multi unit livery program the practical constraint is booth calendar, so those get scheduled in blocks rather than one at a time.
Downtime is the number operators actually care about, so the logistics are worth stating plainly. The facility is at 23281 La Palma Ave in Yorba Linda, 18.4 miles from Hacienda Heights, 24 to 38 minutes on SR-60 west to Fullerton Rd, and the City of Industry corridor that most of this work comes out of is closer still. Everything happens in the building; we do not offer mobile or roadside truck repair, because frame measurement, welding to procedure and paint cure windows need a controlled bay. Do you do mechanical work on commercial trucks?

How do you decide whether a dock impact is a body job or a frame job?
By measuring rather than by looking. The cab, the frame and the body are three separate structures bolted together, so a rear impact can stop at the body and sill or can push into the rails. We measure the rails against factory reference points and check the box for square at the door aperture. Naming which structure moved is what makes the estimate hold up when a supplement is filed.
Why can a reefer panel repair not be done the same way as a dry van panel?
Because a refrigerated body is foamed in place polyurethane between FRP skins, not a cage with a panel on it. A puncture lets water into the foam, where it migrates, adds weight and kills the insulation value. A correct repair cuts back to dry foam, refills, then skins. Patching the outer skin over wet foam looks finished and leaves the body carrying water and losing temperature.
My liftgate has started twisting under load. Is the gate failing?
Often the gate is fine and the truck is not. Liftgates bolt or weld into the rear sill and the frame rails, so a gate that racks under load is usually reporting a cracked sill, a fatigued mount plate or a rail that has taken a set from repeated overload. We inspect the mounting structure before quoting gate parts, since replacing a gate onto a failed sill reproduces the same symptom within months.
Can you repaint a mixed age fleet into one consistent white?
Yes, and the honest way to do it is with spray out cards per unit rather than a single formula. A 2015 cab and a 2023 cab left in Southern California UV have drifted in different directions, so we agree on a target standard, spray out, confirm under shop and daylight, then hold that standard for the rest of the program. Multi unit livery work is scheduled in booth blocks to keep the calendar predictable.
How fast can you turn a truck around for a Hacienda Heights operator?
A single panel and refinish is commonly two to five business days, a box side and door package one to three weeks, and frame or sill structural work three to eight weeks.
