Why alignment is the last step, never the first
Owners often arrive having already paid for an alignment somewhere else after an impact, and it did not hold. That is predictable. Alignment sets the angles of the wheels relative to the structure. If the structure is out, the alignment is set to a wrong reference and the coach still tracks wrong.
The correct order is measure structure, correct structure, repair mounting points, then align. Doing it in that order means the alignment is set once and stays. Doing it in any other order means paying for the alignment twice and living with tire wear in between.
Thrust angle is the number that exposes this. A coach can have perfect toe and camber readings at every wheel and still crab down the road, because the rear axle is not square to the frame centerline. Thrust angle is a structural measurement wearing an alignment measurement costume.
What actually breaks under a coach in an impact
The frame gets the attention, but the components bolted and welded to it take the load first. On motorhome chassis, the common findings are bent steering linkage, a shifted or cracked front spring hanger, deformed shock mounts and a crossmember that has taken a set.
On towables it is different. The suspension is usually a leaf spring on equalizers hung from welded brackets, and the brackets are what fail. A cracked hanger web or a torn equalizer bracket after an impact is common, and so is finding that the crack started before the impact and the event just finished it.
Air suspension adds its own set. Ride height valves, links and air lines are all vulnerable to underbody impact, and a coach that will not level or that sits low on one corner after an event is usually a damaged height control linkage rather than a bag failure.

The alignment itself on a heavy coach
A coach alignment is not a car alignment with bigger numbers. Length amplifies error: a small thrust angle at the drive axle becomes several inches of offset at the rear cap over a 40 foot wheelbase, and it shows up as steering correction the driver makes constantly without noticing.
Readings are taken loaded to a representative weight where practical, because a coach empty and a coach at gross sit at different ride heights and therefore at different camber. Setting angles at an unrepresentative height produces a number that is correct on the rack and wrong on SR-60.
Caster on a front engine gas chassis is the setting owners feel most. A coach that wanders and needs constant correction very often has caster low on one side after an impact, and correcting it changes the driving experience more than any other single adjustment.

Does my RV need an alignment after a collision?
If the impact loaded the chassis, the suspension or the steering, yes, and it should happen after the structural work rather than before. An alignment set against a frame that is still out of tolerance is set to the wrong reference and will not hold. We measure structure first, correct it, then align, which means paying for the alignment once.
How much does chassis repair and alignment cost?

Why does my coach still pull after someone aligned it?
Almost always thrust angle. Toe and camber can read perfect at all wheels while the rear axle sits out of square to the frame centerline, and the coach will crab and pull regardless. That is a structural measurement, not an alignment adjustment, and it has to be corrected at the frame or the axle mounting before any alignment will stick.
Can you repair a cracked crossmember rather than replace it?
Sometimes, and it depends on where the crack is and what caused it. A crack confined to a weld toe with sound parent metal is ground out, rewelded by a certification gated process and reinforced. A crack propagating through parent metal, or one at a location that has already been repaired once, gets the member replaced, because the second crack in the same place tells you the load path is wrong.
Do you handle chassis mechanical work as part of a collision claim?
Chassis structural and suspension repair caused by the impact, yes, and it goes on the same file with the same documentation. Engine and transmission internal rebuild is outside what this facility performs. We do not perform DOT inspection certification, and emission testing is not something offered here either. Where a claim needs that work, we will tell you plainly so it can be scheduled elsewhere.
