Entry Door Repair and Replacement: Cost, Hours and Process in Hacienda Heights
Entry door repair and replacement covers the main door assembly, its frame, hinges, latch and deadbolt, the screen or slider, and the weatherstrip. The typical complaint is a door that has stopped closing cleanly, and the cause is usually a sagging hinge column or a delaminating door skin rather than the latch everyone blames.
What brings this in
- A door that has to be lifted or pulled to catch the latch, which points at the hinge column rather than the latch
- A gap that is tight at the top and open at the bottom on the latch side, the classic sag pattern
- Bubbling or a soft feel in the lower third of the door skin, which is laminate that has taken water
- A deadbolt that no longer aligns with its keeper, forcing the door to be pulled while turning
- A screen door slider that jumps its track or a screen frame that has racked out of square
- Daylight visible around the seal from inside with the door closed and latched
- Weatherstrip that has compressed flat and no longer rebounds when the door is opened
- Corrosion streaks below the door frame flange on the exterior sidewall
- A door that rattles at highway speed even when latched, meaning the strike is loose or the seal is gone

The door is rarely the problem. The column is
An RV entry door hangs from a hinge column fastened to the door frame, and the frame is fastened through the outer skin into the sidewall structure. Every mile of road works those fasteners, and the whole assembly is carrying the weight of a door on a wall that flexes. When a door stops closing cleanly, the reason is usually that the hinge side has moved.
The tell is the gap. If the door is tight at the top on the latch side and open at the bottom, the hinge column has sagged. If the gap is even and the latch simply will not throw, the strike or the latch is the issue. If the gap is uneven top to bottom on both sides, the opening itself is racked and there is a bigger conversation about what moved the wall.
That diagnostic order matters financially. Replacing a latch on a sagged door buys you three months. Re fastening the hinge column into sound substrate with new bite, and rebuilding the fastener zone where the substrate is gone, actually fixes it, and it is often cheaper than a complete door.
- Hinge column re fastening with substrate rebuild where luan has gone soft
- Latch, strike and deadbolt alignment or replacement
- Weatherstrip and bulb seal replacement, the cheapest fix for a wind noise complaint
- Screen door and slider repair, track and roller replacement, screen re fitting
- Door skin replacement where the laminate has taken water at the lower edge
- Complete assembly replacement including frame, when the frame flange or opening is compromised
Which assembly is on your coach, and what it costs to get another
The entry door market consolidated. Kinro built a large share of the doors on coaches from the 1990s through the 2010s and that line now sits under Lippert, which means a door on a fifteen year old trailer may have a current equivalent with a slightly different flange or hinge pattern. Sometimes that difference is invisible after install and sometimes it means a new cut line in the sidewall.
We measure the rough opening, the frame flange dimension, the hinge side, the wall thickness and the radius corners before ordering, because a door is not a returnable part once it ships. A complete assembly runs 10 to 30 business days and carries a 100 percent non refundable deposit at order, which is exactly why the measurement happens first.
Where the original assembly is obsolete, the practical options are a current assembly with a modified flange detail, or a repair of the existing door with a new skin and hardware. On a coach with a matched painted door and a graphics band across it, repairing the original is frequently the better answer, because a new door means a paint and graphics operation on top of the door cost.
Sealing, wind noise and the water path nobody looks at
Wind noise at highway speed and water on the step well are the same problem described two ways. Both come from a compressed weatherstrip or a door that no longer pulls square against it. A weatherstrip is a consumable, and in this climate the UV load and the heat cycling flatten one in five to seven years even on a coach that is barely used.
The path owners never look at is the frame flange. Water that gets past the flange does not appear at the door. It travels down inside the wall and shows up as a soft floor edge or a stained lower cabinet three feet away. When we pull a door frame for any reason, the substrate at the lower flange corners is read for moisture, because that corner is where it always starts.
Resealing the flange is a butyl and fastener operation, not a caulk operation. Running a bead of sealant around the outside of a leaking door frame hides the symptom and traps water behind it, and we see that repair constantly on coaches that arrive with a soft floor at the doorway.
Scope
What this line item does not include
- We do not enlarge or relocate a door opening as part of a door repair. Changing an opening is structural work and is scoped separately.
- We do not fit a residential door into an RV opening. The frame depth, the flange and the seal geometry are not the same thing.
- Powered entry steps and step wells are covered on the entry step page, not here.
Being explicit about the boundary is faster than discovering it at pickup. If the work you need sits outside this line item we will say so at intake and point you at the right one.
Questions
Entry Door Repair and Replacement questions
My RV door will not latch without lifting it. Does it need a new door?
Usually not. That symptom is a sagged hinge column, meaning the fasteners have worked loose in substrate that is no longer holding. The repair re fastens the column into sound material and rebuilds the fastener zone where the luan has gone soft. Replacing the latch on a sagged door treats the symptom and it comes back within a season.
How much does an RV entry door cost to replace?
Hardware and seal work sits at the bottom of the band on this page at two to five hours. A complete assembly replacement sits at the top, driven mostly by the part rather than the labor, and it may carry a separate paint and graphics line if your coach has a body colored door. Lead time is 10 to 30 business days on a complete assembly.
Can you replace just the screen door or the slider?
Yes. Screens, sliders, tracks and rollers are available separately on most Kinro and Lippert assemblies, and a racked screen frame can often be squared and re screened rather than replaced. That is a low hour job and one of the few on this program where the part is usually in stock within a week.
Why is the bottom of my door skin bubbling?
Because the door is a laminate and the lower edge is where water collects. Once moisture is inside the skin, the bond releases and the surface bubbles. That does not repair durably with filler. It needs a new skin on the existing frame or a new door, and it is worth checking the frame flange corners at the same time, since the same water usually got into the wall.
Is a leaking entry door an insurance claim?
Rarely, because a compressed seal and a hardened flange butyl are wear items and carriers treat them as maintenance. Where a sudden event damaged the door, such as wind catching it in a storm, that is a different conversation and we document it accordingly. We will tell you which one you have before you open a claim.
