# Why the Claim Is the Hard Part, Not the Repair

The repair is a known problem with a known method. The claim is where owners lose money, because a first estimate is written from what is visible and on a coach most of the cost is not visible until the panel comes off.

## The structural gap in how coach claims get written

An adjuster is looking at an intact exterior. The membrane is on, the sidewall looks flat, the slide is in. A reasonable first estimate covers what a reasonable person can see.

Then teardown finds wet decking across a third of the roof, laminate released behind sound gelcoat, and a slide rail bent where the impact loaded it. None of that was visible and none of it was on the estimate.

That gap is not bad faith. It is a structural feature of estimating a laminated vehicle from the outside, and closing it is documentation work.

## Why a general shop produces a worse outcome on the same claim

A shop that cannot repair laminate has no reason to look for released laminate, and no vocabulary to describe it on a supplement. The damage does not get found, so it does not get paid, so the owner pays for it later out of pocket.

The same applies to slide mechanisms, LP systems and roof substrate. What a shop can repair determines what it looks for.

## What we actually do differently

Moisture readings on a grid before anything is quoted. Staged teardown photographs at each layer. Parts quotes with real lead times attached, because a carrier disputing a part is different from a carrier disputing a price.

Then the supplement goes in as evidence rather than as an assertion. That is slower than a phone call and it is the reason supplements get approved.

## Questions

**Does using a specialty shop cost me more out of pocket?**

Usually less, because more of the real damage gets found and covered rather than surfacing as your expense a year later. Your deductible does not change based on which shop you choose.

**My carrier suggested a different shop. Do I have to use them?**

No. You choose the repair facility. A carrier may recommend, and a recommendation is not a requirement. The relevant question is whether the recommended shop can perform laminate and structural work on a coach, and it is a fair question to ask them.

**What if my claim is already closed?**

A closed claim can often be reopened where new damage is documented as related to the original loss. That documentation is exactly what a teardown produces, and it is worth doing before assuming the door is shut.
