## Van bodies are automotive, van interiors are not

A Sprinter body panel is a stamped steel or aluminum part with an OEM part number, a dealer channel and a documented repair procedure. That makes van collision work more predictable than coach work and it is why the collision bands on this page are tighter than the ones on the motorhome page. ADAS calibration is a real line item on late model vans and is not optional after windshield or forward sensor area work.

The interior of a converted van is a different world. A camper conversion has a 12 volt system, lithium storage, solar, an inverter, plumbing and cabinetry, frequently built by a small shop or the owner, frequently undocumented. Diagnosing an electrical fault in an owner built system is the most variable work in this building, which is why the diagnostic tier is hourly rather than flat.

## High roof structure and where it gets expensive

A high roof van has a large unsupported fiberglass or composite roof section, often with vents, fans, solar mounting and an air conditioner cut into it. Damage there is a composite repair with a structural component, not a panel job, and it prices under fiberglass work rather than under panel replacement. Owners are frequently surprised by that and it is worth knowing before the estimate arrives.

Roof rack and solar mounting penetrations are the most common source of water intrusion on conversions, usually because the original install used the wrong sealant for a composite substrate. That failure is cheap to correct and expensive to ignore, in the same pattern as towable roof seams.

## Commercial vans and fleet livery

Delivery, trades and service vans come in for panel and corner damage with a livery problem attached: the wrap or graphics have to come off, the repair has to happen, and the graphics have to be reinstated in a way that matches the rest of the fleet. ## Questions

**Do you use OEM panels on a Sprinter?**

By default, yes, and on a late model van with ADAS involvement it is the only defensible choice. Where a carrier writes for aftermarket, we document the difference and let the owner decide, because it is the owner's vehicle and the owner's residual value.

**Can you fix the electrical system in a van somebody else converted?**

Usually, and it starts with the diagnostic tier because the first job is establishing what is actually installed. Owner built and small shop conversions rarely have wiring documentation, so tracing comes before repairing. That is priced hourly for the honest reason that we cannot know in advance how long tracing will take.

**Is ADAS recalibration really necessary?**

After windshield replacement, forward sensor area repair or anything that changes ride height or sensor aim, yes. A camera that thinks it is pointed somewhere it is not will brake for things that are not there or fail to brake for things that are.
