# Structural Damage Assessment: Cost, Hours and Process in Hacienda Heights

Structural damage assessment is a measured determination of whether a coach is inside factory tolerance after an event. Control points are read against the chassis manufacturer specification and you receive the printed comparison. It is the document that decides whether the repair is cosmetic, structural or neither.

## Specifications

- Price band: $285 to $1,200
- Shop hours: 1 to 5 hours
- Turnaround tier: Light cosmetic
- Insurance billable: yes
- Parts lead time: No parts. Findings drive the parts order on the repair that follows
- OEM brands: Car-O-Liner, Chief, Hunter, Lippert, Freightliner Custom Chassis, Autel

## What the appointment produces

You get a printed comparison of measured control points against the chassis manufacturer specification, photographs of every location read, and a written classification: inside tolerance, marginal, or out of tolerance with the specific dimensions and directions of the deviation.

That document is the same one a repair here would be built from, which means it does not have to be repeated if you authorize work. The assessment is priced at the in depth diagnostic tier, one hour at $285 with a one hour minimum, and it is credited against an authorized repair.

If the answer is that the coach is fine, you have paid for a real answer and you own the document. That happens often enough to be worth stating: a meaningful share of coaches sent here for structural suspicion measure inside tolerance, and the owner leaves with proof rather than a worry.

- Printed control point comparison against factory specification
- Photographs of every measurement location
- Written classification with deviation dimensions and directions
- Diamond, twist and thrust angle findings where applicable
- Recommended repair path with the price band it falls into
- The file transfers directly into an authorized repair with no repeat measurement

## The three situations that bring coaches here

The first is post event uncertainty. Something happened, the visible damage looks small, and nobody wants to authorize a repair without knowing whether the structure moved. This is the highest value use of the appointment, because it is the case where guessing costs the most.

The second is pre purchase. A used coach with a repaint at one corner, mismatched sealant and no accident disclosure is worth measuring before money changes hands. Structural history is the single largest hidden liability on a used coach and it is the one thing a visual inspection cannot settle.

The third is dispute. A carrier, an attorney or a buyer wants an independent structural determination in a form that will hold up. The printed comparison and photograph set is built for exactly that, and we write it to be read by someone who was not present.

## Why a visual inspection cannot substitute

Coach construction hides deformation deliberately well. Bonded sandwich sidewalls spread load and resist showing a crease. Aluminum tube framing yields quietly. Sealant is flexible enough to stretch across a movement that has already opened a joint underneath.

The measurable consequences show up as small numbers in places nobody looks: a diagonal that is three eighths of an inch long, an outrigger rotated a degree, a rear axle a quarter inch out of square. None of those are visible and all of them cost money later, in slide seals, sealant joints, tire wear and delamination.

That is the whole argument for measuring rather than looking. The deformations that matter on a coach are exactly the ones an eye cannot detect, and the coach conceals them until the consequences arrive.

## Not included

- We do not perform assessments at a customer location. Measurement requires a level anchored floor.
- This is an assessment, not a repair. Nothing is corrected during the appointment.
- Pre purchase condition inspection is a separate maintenance line item with a different scope.

## Questions

**How much does a structural damage assessment cost?**

It is priced at the in depth diagnostic tier, one hour at $285 with a one hour minimum, and the band on this page reflects larger coaches and more measurement points running to four or five hours. The full amount is credited against an authorized repair, so if the findings lead to work here the assessment effectively rolls into it.

**Can you tell whether a used RV was in an accident?**

Frequently yes, and more reliably than a visual inspection. Repaired structure leaves measurable evidence even when the cosmetic work is good: control points slightly off specification, sectioning joints where the factory had none, replaced fasteners, and corrosion protection missing inside an opened cavity. We photograph what we find and describe it in writing.

**What exactly do I receive at the end?**

A printed control point comparison against the chassis manufacturer specification, photographs of each location measured, and a written classification with the deviation dimensions and directions. Plus a recommended repair path and the price band it falls into, so you can decide with numbers rather than adjectives. The document is yours whether or not you authorize work.

**How long does the appointment take?**

One to five hours of measurement depending on coach length and how many control points are accessible. Most owners drop the coach in the morning and collect it the same day. Where an underbelly or a shroud has to come off to reach control points, plan on a second day and expect that access labor as a separate line.

**Is this the same as an insurance damage assessment?**

Related but not identical. An insurance claim damage assessment documents all damage from an event for a carrier file. This is specifically a structural determination against factory tolerance, and it is what the claim file needs when the question is whether the coach moved. Many claims here end up with both, and the measurement data is what makes a structural supplement straightforward.
