# Minor Collision Repair: Cost, Hours and Process in Hacienda Heights

Minor collision repair covers impact damage that stopped at the skin and its immediate backing: a clipped rear corner, a low speed strike into a post, a sideswipe that crushed a panel without moving a frame rail. The word minor is earned by measurement, not by appearance, and measurement comes first.

## Why measurement decides whether this is minor

Coach construction hides deformation. The sidewall is a bonded sandwich: an outer skin, a foam core, tube framing, and an interior panel. A strike that opens the skin two inches can push a vertical tube out of plumb an eighth of an inch and leave no external clue, and an eighth of an inch at the sidewall is a quarter inch of gap change at the slide.

So we measure before we quote. Control points are read against the chassis manufacturer specification, and the printed comparison either puts the structure inside tolerance or does not. Inside tolerance, the job stays on this page. Outside tolerance, it moves to frame straightening or major collision repair and you get told that with numbers attached, before parts are ordered.

That sequence protects you twice. It keeps a genuinely small job small, and it keeps a structural job from being papered over with filler and paint that will crack out of the repair in the first year of road flex.

## What the repair actually consists of

With structure confirmed sound, the work is a controlled skin and backing repair. Damaged skin is cut back to sound material along a joint we choose rather than one the impact chose. Crushed backing tube is straightened, or cut and spliced with a matching section where the deformation exceeds what can be pulled without work hardening the aluminum.

New skin is bonded and mechanically fastened per the coach builder pattern, then the joint is finished and the panel is prepped for refinish. Where the damage crosses a molding, a compartment opening or a cap seam, the adjacent component comes off rather than getting cut around, because a sealant joint rebuilt around an obstruction is the joint that leaks in eighteen months.

Refinish is blended into the adjacent panels rather than stopped at a masking line. On a coach with a printed or multi stage graphic, that blend is the largest single variable in the hour count.

- Control point measurement and printed comparison to chassis specification
- Skin cut back to a chosen joint, not to the edge of the impact
- Backing tube straightened or spliced with matching section
- Bonded and mechanically fastened skin per builder pattern
- Sealant joints rebuilt with the adjacent component removed
- Refinish blended into adjacent panels, graphics matched or reprinted

## Where the hours and the dollars go

Labor is billed at the posted body and paint rate of $210 per hour, plus body supplies at $5 per body hour and paint supplies at $55 per paint hour. On a job in this band, refinish is often more than half the total, which surprises owners who are looking at a dent and thinking about metal work.

The other driver is what the impact happened to sit next to. A clean run of sidewall in a solid color is the low end of the band. The same size impact at a corner, crossing a compartment opening, on a coach with a three color printed graphic, is the top of it. Nothing about the dent changed; what changed is how many assemblies have to come off and how much surface has to be refinished to make the repair invisible.

Parts pricing follows the posted policy: 100 percent markup on parts of $100 or less, 35 percent above that, and special order items carry a 100 percent non refundable deposit at order.

## Whether to run it through insurance

Below roughly twice your deductible, most owners pay cash and keep the claim history clean. Above that, a claim usually makes sense, and it makes more sense than owners expect on coaches, because the discovery rate on RV collision is high. What looks like $2,500 of skin becomes $9,000 once the panel is open and the backing is visible.

That discovery pattern is exactly why we write a teardown based file rather than a photo estimate. Supplements on this class of work are normal, not exceptional, and a documented teardown with measurement data attached is the difference between a supplement that gets approved and one that gets argued for three weeks.

We bill direct with every major carrier. Insurance billed jobs may be billed at carrier negotiated labor rates that differ from the posted retail rates.

## Not included

- We do not perform impact repair at a customer location. Measurement needs a level anchored floor.
- Hail dimpling and parking lot door dings with no impact event are non collision panel work, scoped elsewhere.
- Interior cabinet and wall panel damage from the same event is quoted as interior work, separately.

## Questions

**How much does minor collision repair cost on an RV?**

The band on this page covers it, and refinish scope drives where you land inside it more than the dent does. A single panel strike in a solid color sits near the bottom. The same impact at a corner, crossing a compartment opening, on a coach with printed multi color graphics, sits near the top. The teardown estimate produces the actual number at one hour of body rate, credited against an authorized repair.

**How do I know the frame is not bent if the damage looks small?**

You do not know from looking, which is the honest answer. Coach sidewalls are bonded sandwich panels that hide deformation well, and an eighth of an inch of movement at a vertical tube shows up as a quarter inch of gap change at the nearest slide or door. We read control points against the chassis specification and give you the printed comparison, so the classification is measured rather than assumed.

**Should I file a claim or pay out of pocket?**

Below about twice your deductible, paying directly usually comes out ahead. Above that a claim is generally worth filing, and on coach collision the discovery rate is high enough that the initial number often understates the job. We write the file from a teardown so a supplement is documented rather than contested if hidden damage appears.

**How long will my coach be in the shop?**

One to three weeks for most jobs in this band. Labor is 5 to 40 hours, but the calendar is longer than the labor because skin and trim sections run 5 to 15 business days and refinish needs cure and cut windows that cannot be compressed without costing you the finish.

**Does a small collision need ADAS recalibration?**

It depends on what the coach carries and where the impact landed. If the chassis has a forward radar, a camera at the windshield or blind spot sensors in the rear corners, and any of those mounting locations were disturbed, the system needs a scan and a static recalibration afterward. We scan at intake so you know before the repair rather than after.
