# Which Repairs Are Certification Gated and Why It Matters

Two categories of work on a recreational vehicle cannot legally be performed without certification: LP gas systems and anything involving refrigerant, which requires EPA 608. A third, ADAS calibration, requires equipment most shops do not own.

## LP gas work

An RV LP system runs at pressure into a living space with open flame appliances. Leak testing, line replacement, regulator work and appliance connection are certification gated, and for good reason.

Every service page on this site that involves LP carries a certification requirement as a data field rather than as a marketing line. If a shop cannot tell you plainly who on their floor is certified, that is the answer.

## Refrigerant and EPA 608

Recovering, recycling or charging refrigerant requires EPA 608 certification. That covers rooftop air conditioning service and any absorption refrigerator work involving the sealed system.

It also means a shop without it has to either decline the work or replace whole units where a repair would have done, which is a materially more expensive outcome for the owner.

## ADAS calibration after collision work

Newer vans and chassis carry driver assistance sensors behind the windshield and in the bumpers. Any collision repair that disturbs their mounting requires recalibration, and calibration requires targets, space and equipment.

Skipping it produces a vehicle that looks repaired and has a safety system reporting against a reference that has moved. It is a real line item on our estimates rather than an upsell.

## Structural welding

Frame and structural welding on a chassis is not general fabrication. Procedure, material and heat control all matter, and a bad structural weld is a hidden defect that shows up in a second collision.

## Questions

**How do I verify a shop actually holds these certifications?**

Ask directly, by name of certification, and ask who on the floor holds it. A shop that holds it will answer immediately. This is the single easiest capability question to ask and the one most often skipped.

**Does certification change the price?**

It changes what is possible. Certified refrigerant work often means repairing a system where an uncertified shop must replace the unit, which is usually the cheaper outcome for you despite the higher hourly rate.

**Is ADAS calibration always needed after a collision?**

Not always, but whenever a sensor mounting point was disturbed, and that includes windshield replacement on many vans. Where it is required it appears on the estimate with its own band, because it is a real operation with real equipment behind it.
